How Summit Casing scaled manufacturing with DFW Movers & Erectors

As manufacturers expand production capacity, moving and installing increasingly larger machinery requires specialized expertise, meticulous planning, and a partner capable of minimizing downtime while keeping operations running safely and efficiently.

Overview

As Summit Casing Equipment expanded from a distribution company into a full-scale manufacturer, every new production line required larger, heavier, and more complex machinery. While smaller machines could be handled internally, installing presses weighing hundreds of thousands of pounds demanded specialized expertise.

For more than a decade, Summit Casing has relied on DFW Movers & Erectors to transport, disassemble, relocate, install, align, and repair critical manufacturing equipment. Rather than hiring multiple contractors for each stage of a project, Summit works with a single trusted partner capable of managing the entire process from planning through commissioning.

“They give us peace of mind. They have the people, the equipment, and the experience.”

Challenge

As Summit expanded its manufacturing capabilities, the company began investing in increasingly larger production equipment. One of its biggest investments was a 400-ton stamping press weighing approximately 225,000 pounds. Moving a machine of this size wasn’t simply a transportation challenge. The press had to be completely disassembled at its original facility, transported across multiple truckloads, reassembled, wired, leveled, calibrated, and commissioned at Summit’s plant. Every stage required careful planning to ensure the equipment returned to operation safely and accurately.

The complexity didn’t end after installation. Because the press was installed before the building was fully enclosed, later maintenance presented another obstacle. The machine required significant overhead clearance for servicing, but once the building was completed, there wasn’t enough vertical space to remove critical components. Servicing the press ultimately required cutting an opening in the roof and coordinating an external crane to lift major components out of the building for repair before reinstalling them.

For Summit, managing projects like these with multiple contractors would have increased both complexity and downtime.

Solution

Rather than relying on separate vendors for transportation, rigging, installation, and repairs, Summit partnered with DFW Movers & Erectors to manage the entire lifecycle of the 400-ton press.

For the initial installation, DFW coordinated the complete disassembly, transportation, rigging, reassembly, electrical reconnects, leveling, calibration, and commissioning of the press. Years later, when the machine required major service, DFW again developed the rigging plan, coordinated cutting access through the roof, positioned an external crane, removed the press components for repair, and reinstalled them once maintenance was complete.

That same turnkey approach now extends across Summit’s operations. DFW provides:

  • Equipment evaluations before purchase
  • Transportation planning and heavy rigging
  • Machine disassembly and reassembly
  • Multi-truck logistics
  • Installation and positioning
  • Electrical reconnects
  • Precision leveling and calibration
  • Emergency repairs and ongoing maintenance

Before every major move, DFW develops detailed installation plans, labels wiring, hydraulic lines, air lines, and components, and assigns experienced crews who stay with the project from start to finish. This methodical process minimizes downtime while ensuring complex equipment is returned to production safely and efficiently.

Results

Over more than ten years of working together, DFW Movers & Erectors has become an extension of Summit Casing’s manufacturing operation.

Reduced Downtime

For Summit, speed matters as much as cost. Production equipment is often unique within the facility, meaning extended downtime directly impacts customer commitments.

While competing vendors occasionally quoted lower prices, Summit found those projects frequently experienced delays. DFW’s reliability consistently reduced costly production delays.

Trusted Technical Expertise

DFW’s experienced crews handle complex rigging, repairs, and equipment relocation with minimal oversight. Their preparation, planning, and specialized knowledge provide Summit with confidence that projects will be completed safely and correctly the first time.

Long-Term Manufacturing Partner

Beyond machinery moving, DFW continues supporting Summit through equipment repairs, maintenance, troubleshooting, emergency service, and future expansion planning. When breakdowns occur, their team often provides phone support or dispatches technicians within a day.

“Quality of the work and reliability, that's what stands out the most.”
